The Articles of Confederation

When the founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence they knew they would need a government once the revolutionary war was over. Without the articles the country might not be considered legitimate by other countries and would have difficulty with treaties and trade agreements. They wrote the Articles of Confederation to form a government which gave virtually all powers to the individual states. Many nationalists thought the articles did not provide for a strong enough government but since the war was on everyone agreed to ratify it. The nationalists didn't like the fact that the government could not regulate trade between the states. After the war was over the Constitution was written. It gave the government much more power and with the Bill of Rights gave us a much better government than the Articles of Confederacy did.
